Steve Gleasons story is both inspirational and tragic. A beloved former safety and special teams player for the New Orleans Saints, Gleason retired in 2008 and announced in 2011 that he was battling?amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), also known as Lou Gehrigs disease.Gleason has devoted his post-NFL life to raising awareness for ALS and to cultivating a positive legacy. His Twitter account reads: Inspiring people to live with purpose. Although his life has a new focus now, he still makes time to enjoy the game he loves.?Seen above, Gleason makes a visit to his former stomping grounds and takes a selfie with his former coach Sean Payton, who has been at the helm for the Saints since 2006.Gleason is perhaps best remembered for his punt block in a 2006 game against the Atlanta Falcons; the block led to Saints cornerback Curtis Deloatch recovering the ball in the Falcons end zone for a touchdown. It was the first score on home soil for the Saints in nearly two years, as New Orleans was on the tailend of recovering from the devastation that Hurricane Katrina brought on the city.?Gleason is determined to face adversity head on and live his life to the fullest. The documentary Gleason, which was released earlier this year, chronicles his journey from playing in the NFL to living with ALS and depicts how he works to help others who have been diagnosed with the disease. This season marks the 50-year-anniversary of the Saints organization. In honor of this, the Saints have named an All 50 Team, which comprises 50 of the best Saints players throughout the past 50 seasons. All members of the All-50 team will be honored in a halftime ceremony on Sunday when the Saints play the Detroit Lions. Gleason, naturally, was named to the team. A well deserved honor for an incredible person.--Meaghan LatellaAir Max From China . Paul Pierce couldnt believe he missed at the end. Newcastle dominated in the early stages but City weathered the storm and then raised its game in extra time. Negredo broke the deadlock from close range after a simple move in the 99th minute before Dzeko took the ball round goalkeeper Tim Krul to seal the victory in the 105th.Anyone who remembers?Jahlil Okafor or (reaching way back to ancient times) Anthony Davis knows that freshmen can be amazing. In fact even a somewhat less celebrated one-and-done performer like Jabari Parker?was both a statistical wonder and, like Okafor and Davis, a consensus first-team All-American.But those guys all played for Kentucky or Duke, and, as detailed below, one thing weve havent seen in the last five years is an Okafor- or Davis-level immaculate season from an elite freshman at a program other than one of the usual suspects. For example, LSUs?Ben Simmons?earned some All-American nods on his way to being the No. 1 overall pick, yet a seeason in?which the Tigers missed the NCAA tournament and where SEC player of the year honors went to Kentuckys?Tyler Ulis?was, often as not, termed disappointing.ddddddddddddLiving up to the hype as an elite freshman is very difficult. And, apparently, one thing thats even more difficult is living up to that hype for a team that stands just outside the very top echelon of college basketball. This is the tendency that an extraordinary talent like Washingtons?Markelle Fultz?will be going against this season at Washington.
