VANCOUVER -- The Vancouver Whitecaps have signed homegrown defender Sam Adekugbe to a contract. The 18-year-old spent two seasons with the Whitecaps residency program, starting 55 of his 57 appearances with the clubs under-16 and under-18 teams. He will continue with the under-18 team until the end of its season. "Sam is a fantastic young talent and someone were all very excited to bring into the first team," Whitecaps head coach Martin Rennie said in a statement.
